Question: What is the meaning of abortion to a spirit?

Spirit Guide: Abortion to a spirit is one of two things. Souls who are aborted by the mother are often sad souls for being returned because they see many times the love and the support that the mother could be, but the mother feels so overwhelmed by earth conditions that she doesn't feel capable of handling a child for whatever reason. So this soul accepts the mother's condition that she's in emotionally at this time and realizes that it would not be a good time to be there as well but often can feel sad for they see many times beyond the immediate struggle the mother is having. Generally it is not anything the spirit has had any control over whatsoever, because it has been the choice of the human mother to discontinue that birth. The spirit has chosen that mother to have in its life for many reasons. The mother does not have to choose to have that spirit. So that does not generally have anything to do with the spirit that has chosen to move into that mother and that family. It does not have any repercussions to that little spirit soul that wants to come and be a child at that time because it has a complete understanding that it was the mother's choice. Then there are times when a spirit soul will agree to that happening because they know that they are part of that mother's evolution and spiritual lessons. And it is an agreed upon experience for that spirit soul. And it is for the spiritual growth of both that mother and that spirit to experience that. Is abortion considered a spiritual crime? No, it is not.

Question: In cases where the birth of the child would endanger the life of the mother, is it a crime to sacrifice the child to save the mother?

Spirit: No. It is better to save the mother.

Cannon: So what you are saying is that we would not be able to define at what point life really begins.

Spirit: That is accurate. And so abortion should not be criticized in the sense of killing a soul because it is not possible to gauge at what point that physical life form had indeed taken a soul.

Cannon: If I understand what you are saying, in all probability an abortion would not actually take a life. Is that true?

Spirit: It perhaps might be best understood to know that in deciding whether to carry out an abortion this responsibility is shared by, not only the mother, but by that life force which would inhabit the vehicle which is aborted. It is done on a somewhat deeper level of awareness than subsconscious but not completely on the inner realms. There is some conscious communication which is inherent in this decision making process. It is of a level that is somewhat inner and yet somewhat outer at the same time or simultaneously.

Question: Is induced abortion a crime, no matter in what period of gestation it is induced?

Spirit: Every transgression of God's laws is a crime. The mother, or anyone else, who takes the life of an unborn child is committing a crime. Why? Because an abortion prevents the soul from undergoing the trial of which the destroyed body was to have been the instrument.

Question: Since an abortion prevents the child from undergoing the planned trials for his/her life, why is an abortion not considered a spiritual crime?

Spirit Guide Commentary (9/8/08): Because that little spirit has the opportunity to go back to its spirit family. There are other earth families waiting for it who will give it good challenges and it never dies. So it's not being killed, it's just being returned. And it will come back into another family and will face its life on earth.

Followup question: Allan Kardec's spirit communicators refer to a "transgression of God's laws" as a "crime". Do these expressions have meaning in the spirit world, and if so, would you please explain that meaning?

Spirit Guide Commentary (9/8/08) We watch those of you who live upon earth to know that everything has to be given a description, has to have a definition and sometimes the words aren't appropriate for the other side of your life. We believe that women who use abortion as a means of birth control are very much going against the desires of our Creator. On earth you are given guidance, direction, to be able to live the highest possible consciousness that you can and when those those lines are crossed and you begin to go against those guidelines you are then working against God and lowering your energy and conscious vibration. On earth, they would be considered criminal acts. But in heaven they are events that you are given the chance to review and to be able to wipe the slate clean, so to speak, of what transgressions you feel have been committed against the Christ consciousness and the Creator and their desires of what they would like to see earth be.

The spirit guides significantly lessen the adverse nature of an abortion, in their view, by pointing out that the spirit of the aborted fetus is not killed, it returns to its spirit family, and does not lose the opportunity to experience a life on earth. What are regarded as crimes on earth are not considered criminal in the same context in heaven, and the words 'crimes' and 'laws' represent an earthly view of human behavior and constraints.
